Our Cessna Caravan was following the highway and the pipeline north out of Fairbanks when about 100 miles out the clouds broke up, the sun came out, and by the time we landed in Bettles it was down right warm, toasty, and not a cloud in the sky. We were all antsy to continue on with the next leg of our trip but the Alaskan lollygag factor equated heavily into our travels. After three and a half hours we finally had a plane and were ready to continue.

After a breath taking flight over the Brooks Range, Bill, our pilot, banked the Dehaviland Beaver sharply over to the left and swooped down between two peaks and began gliding towards a couple of tiny little lakes that were right on Kutuk Pass.

I'm looking ahead and thinking, hmmm? That's a pretty small lake but geeze oh petes it was not even slightly a problem for the Beaver. Wow, what a fun ride. Thanks Bill!
